I had a great time doing the Lucy Ann Lance radio show this past week. ¬†Lucy’s show is run out of Ann Arbor, Michigan and she invited me on to speak about criminal justice reform mostly out of curiosity I believe. The request I received to do the show said they wanted to talk about Right on Crime and the movement of conservatives that have entered the fray in criminal justice reform around America. It seems that the mere presence of conservatives in this arena let alone our extremely active pace is raising a lot of eyebrows in the media today.

This is a good thing. For too long conservatives have only applied our principles to certain areas of government and in other areas we have either lacked the stomach to pursue our stringent perusal of budgets, outcomes and performance or we have flat-out adopted the liberal mindset and say with regularity, “it isn’t working because it is underfunded!”

This has been the behavior of conservatives in the criminal justice arena for the past 40 years and it is beginning to change and for very good reason. I am grateful for the opportunity to participate in this reawakening of principle, pursuit of justice and reconciliation in the role of government in our lives.
