When I first met Tom Watkins back in 1992, I was struggling even then to not drink too much.  I was young, single and working in the insurance industry.  I was just getting involved in politics.

Tom on the other hand was an experienced leader, having served as the Mental Health Director under Michigan Governor Jim Blanchard’s administration.  Tom was a mentor then – and friend and mentor now.

I hope you will read this great article in which he talks about my book: “Highly Functional: A Collision of Addiction, Justice & Grace” and his own experience in leading mental health reform.

Tom is currently the CEO of the Wayne County Mental Health Authority in Michigan and one of America’s foremost and experienced leaders in Mental Health public policy and administration.
